Cueva Pintada Museum

The Museum and Archaeological Park of Cueva Pintada in Gáldar is one of the most representative archaeological sites in the Canary Islands. This museum plays a very important role in understanding the period prior to the island's conquest. My professional relationship with Cueva Pintada began in 2007 and continues to this day. I can proudly say that I feel like a part of the magnificent team that manages it.

Archaeological pieces

Here is a small selection of photos of archaeological artifacts recovered in various excavations conducted in this archaeological park. Cueva Pintada already has countless photos that follow the traditional aesthetic of catalog photography: clean and clear. On this occasion, they were looking for something different for a publication. I find this kind of work to be a challenge, not only because I want to meet the client's expectations and my own, but also because it involves photographing very special objects. Objects that were used centuries ago. Objects with a soul. In this instance, I chose to recreate the dim and high-contrast lighting that is present inside the caves.

Archaeological site

The museum has an area of 5,000 square meters of archaeological site: remains of stone houses, spectacular caves, places of worship... Once again, they asked me to provide a fresh interpretation of the space. I chose to portray it through details instead of seeking the traditional panorama. After long walks through the site, I selected a series of details with special symbolic value: the wall where you can still see the fingerprints of the person who built it, the hearth where they cooked in the open air, the channel through which the life-giving water flowed...
